Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students face numerous challenges everyday. With the help from these social stories, books, and listening programs they will be able to learn how to react appropriately in various situations.

I say it time and time again, but it is the truth, my students are simply amazing.

They wake up in the mornings with at least three strikes against them. My students are considered to have very low incomes along with their disabilities. Most of my students are also second language learners. They have to fight through all of these situations and the complications that can arise from them.

My Project

I am requesting story books that deal with problems like hitting, how to act in social situations, and germs. Along with these books I am requesting programs designed specially for teaching children with special needs how to think about a situation, listen completely, and react appropriately. For typically developing children, these problem solving skills develop naturally, but my students have to work extremely hard to accomplish even the simplest tasks. These programs will allow my students to function appropriately in social situations, and in turn make more friends, be happier, and enjoy things all children do.

This project is extremely important to me because I want to be able to teach my students and allow them to be successful in any circumstance they encounter.

Even things like germs and hygiene are difficult for my students to understand. In social situations my students are often looked down upon by their typically developing peers because of their table manners and their lack of proper hygiene. It is difficult to explain a concept like germs to my students when they cannot actually see them.
