My students need basic office supplies when they are in the classroom, a pencil sharpener that will sharpen their pencils and not break them, and project supplies.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

It is tough providing supplies for so many of my students who cannot provide for themselves. I have purchased many supplies out of my own pocket, but it is getting tougher. Pencil sharpeners break from heavy use, tissues are needed for the sniffles, and the school doesn't provide these.

My students come from economically disadvantaged homes.

Many of them have a hard time getting the pens, pencils, and paper that they need for school. Asking them to provide tissues and and other small things. The small things add up fast. There are many hurdles they have to jump through due to their economical problems. They have enough hurdles to jump through, providing them with some of the basic supplies allows them to have one less hurdle to face in order to have a productive time in the classroom.

My Project

The students can be a little tough, but beneath this exterior are kids who just need that added push to excel. Without the supplies on the first day of school, students begin the year behind the curve and feel as if they never get caught up. This really does have an impact on their self esteem. During these first days they are filling in paperwork for their classes, being asked to bring in supplies, and many of them just don't have the funds to do it.

The students of today are the leaders of tomorrow.

The idea of "pay it forward" means something to them. They realize that things that are given to them have an impact on them and do come at a cost. A bill that needs to be paid in the future by helping out people who are less fortunate than they are. Students of today need to be invested in so that they can have the opportunity to invest in future generations.
