Did you know movement increases learning? Studies show that play, recess, and physical education are essential. Help our students continue to move while their playground equipment is unavailable by providing them with fun activities to use in its place!
The students I work with are full of energy and a desire to learn, and they come to school with visions of a future of opportunity.
With over 75% on free and reduced lunches, many of them come from homes where life isn't always easy. School is their home away from home--a place where they can fill their brains, tummies, and hearts. In order to do that, we have to keep them actively engaged physically as well as mentally.
My Project
The items included in this project will provide our entire school with equipment that they can use during recess to keep their bodies moving and their brains active. For the rest of the school year, our playground equipment will be out of commission as construction is being done in that area to provide the community with a safe room that will double as a school gymnasium.
Because their already small playground will be cut in half, it is imperative that they have playground balls, games, and other activities that they can play with to keep them moving during recess. This project will provide them a variety of recess equipment from jump ropes to hula hoops. They can hopscotch, toss footballs, organize races, play croquet, go bowling, and much more! Not only will these materials help our students stay active, but they will also be provide practice with social skills, conflict resolution, coordination, and large motor skills.
When the students realize that their playground equipment isn't going to be available for the rest of the year, they are going to be disappointed.
