This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine what it is like trying to dissect something that is too big for the tray that you're trying to use? Well we have had first hand experience with this and we really need the large dissecting trays, but our Title 1 school can't even afford enough chairs, let alone, extra lab equipment.

Our students are from a Title 1 school district in Texas and rarely have money to buy paper and pencils.

We spend most of our science budget buying the animals to dissect and therefore do not have any money for trays etc. We need trays, dissecting utensils, cats, lab aprons and so much more. The students are very curious about anatomy and really want to further their education, but often spend most of their time working after school just to support their families. They thrive on learning the information given and have no idea about combined B.S./M.D. degrees. By enriching their experience in science we can help them understand about the tech. degrees that are available as well as physician assistants, doctors, dentists, vets., and more. This will help at least 165 students and continue to help through the years to come. We will also be able to try and expand knowledge by sharing with students in A.P. Biology classes. After teaching Anatomy and Physiology this year,the students loved it.

My Project

By funding our project for larger dissection trays, we will be able to dissect more parts of the cat bodies. The extra dissection techniques and organ visualization will help them put hands on learning with book work and they won't have to just read about body parts.

Our project is important because it gives the hands-on learners a chance to experience the shape and size ratios of organ systems.

They can more easily recall body parts after having seen and experienced a dissection.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
