Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a music production class that has been learning to create music with our computers. We started to record live instruments and sounds for all around us. We have acoustic guitars, pianos, drums, and our imaginations to use with our computer programs.
We are an urban NYC DOE school that specializes in music production.
We have a large group of highly motivated 9th and 10th graders who are continually pushing themselves to learn, adapt, and experiment with sound in any way we can. Unfortunately our school lost a large amount of funding so the equipment we were expecting to purchase had to be put on hold. This has not stopped our drive and determination to learn. With the help of another non profit organization and the generosity of a retired musician we have continued to learn drums, guitars, piano, and recording. Now we just need materials that enable us to take the next few steps!
My Project
I am requesting 8 Korg Nano pads to work with Digital Audio Workstations to trigger sound samples. Since beginning to learn digital audio, we have learned how to create music using 'loops." Loops are prerecorded sounds that can seamlessly play over and over without hearing where the sound ends or starts. In addition to that, we have been learning piano and drums as well as guitars. Now we have gotten to the point where our learning would benefit from having additional ways to use these sounds. These Pads/controllers would serve as a bridge for using our creations in live performances and real time recording.
Having real world, hands-on materials is an invaluable tool for anyone who is learning.
The addition of these controllers will open the door to so many possibilities for us as well as help teach a skill that is used everyday all around us. These controllers will help teach the next generation of audio craftsmen that the world around us can be our sonic pallet to create the sound track of our future.
