My students need to improve their literacy skills with a bigger classroom library and a listening/research center using headphones.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
In the heart of our nation's capitol, my students are as eager to learn as ever. In my classroom, we are constantly reading new books and exploring topics.
Both my students and my school have an intense passion for learning and growth.
My school is a Rising level Title I school in an urban setting. We strive to make our students stand out among the rest in our area. While we don't always have every resource at our fingertips, we are able to engage our students to help develop their intrinsic motivation to learn. Our students are hardworking during the school day and excited participants in after school activities. They say things like "I don't wanna leave my school." At my school, we are a family.
My students will use these resources in my classroom daily. We plan on utilizing technology, engaging in research, and reading challenging texts to improve their literacy skills. With the incorporation of programs like Lexia, Scholastic News, and Storia, my students will use the headphones to stay focused and work independently either on the computer or on a tablet. With a new classroom library and book cart, my students can use the books to develop their passion for reading and explore new topics. The cart will also help to keep my books organized by reading level for my students to be able to easily identify which books are "just right" for them.
Your donations will help to improve my classroom but providing us with resources that we aren't able to normally have.
These resources will help to develop my classroom library more, and finally provide my classroom with the technology center that I have been wanting to utilize in my classroom since my first year of teaching. My students will be able to research and learn independently using books and technology and become to shining stars that I know that they are.
