My students spend most of their time looking things up in books and doing research on the Internet. They love any hands-on learning we do. It would be absolutely amazing to get them up to the mountains to see stars they would never see here at home and to experience science in a truly hands-on way.
We are a school that has had a lot of transition.
Last year, these kids had several teachers during the school year and no consistency. They missed out on not only a lot of learning but a lot of fun opportunities like field trips.
My students are gregarious, eager, and sometimes challenging. Many come from single family homes where the parents work two jobs and don't have a lot to spare for a big trip like this. Getting the opportunity to take them out of the city into the wilderness to challenge themselves physically and mentally would be a wonderful way to cap off the last year of their elementary education.
Some of the students have special needs, and this would truly be an amazing opportunity for them to attend such a unique field trip with their peers where they will all be equal and supportive of each other.
My students need a trip to AstroCamp to experience hands-on science in an outdoor environment. This is an experience I want to share with my students to celebrate all the hard work and success they've had this year.
My Project
At Astrocamp, the students will get a hands-on science education that supports the curriculum we use in our 5th grade. They will have the opportunity to build and launch rockets, participate in science experiments, and look out high-powered telescopes. They will also get to challenge themselves and experience teamwork in outdoor activities like the zipline and sky coaster. It's a great opportunity for them to bond with their classmates at the same time they are learning AND having fun.
Many of my students can't afford this trip on their own, and we've had a struggling PTA.
Having donations to help these students attend a field trip that they wouldn't otherwise be able to experience will give them a lifetime of memories.
