My Students

Do you remember that one outstanding book series, character, or author who stole your heart? Our students love seeing the latest books by their favorite authors on our shelves the minute they hit book stores. Help us obtain the newest fiction books while igniting our students' passion for reading!

Our students deserve the world, but sadly, they do not always have the opportunities they should.

Public schools in Illinois are suffering major funding blows and we are at a rural public school where the library budget is and already has been devastatingly low. Everyone has been hit hard by the economic downturn, but many of our students have been affected a little more. Parents have lost jobs and households that didn't have a very high income as it is, have been devastated; however, our students are leaders who inspire and persist in times when sacrifice is essential. Never once have they complained as clubs, classes, budgets, and programs have been cut all around them. Instead, they have banded together, donated books to the library, and asked what they can do to help. It is this spirit that inspires me and motivates me to work to give our students the resources to which they have a right.

My Project

Teen love, addiction, bullying, family conflicts, and the pressures of modern life are not only issues that strike young people's curiosity, but they are also struggles that they must face daily. Through books, kids can explore problems privately, get inspired by persevering characters, and escape to places they may never physically go. Through the characters' struggles, kids may learn to cope with problems of their own. Stories teach, entertain, inspire, and help kids make their way through life. Because these stories will stay with our students forever, the gift impacts them for a lifetime. Because the books stay in the library, they continuously impact our school as well. One of the most important values we can pass on to our students is the importance of finding joy in reading and embracing that for a lifetime.

Our readers have invested so much time and heart in their favorite authors and series and I'd like to make the newest author contributions available to our students immediately.

Maintaining a library that has current and cutting edge books for our 21st century learners is expensive and can be timely on a limited budget. Our students will be inspired by these new titles and their quest to become lifelong learners and readers will be encouraged. The newest fiction titles equal reading excitement!
