My Students

With the increasing emphasis on technology there has been a shift away from precision in handwriting. My students need to learn and practice cursive. Studies have shown that attention to handwriting can increase cognitive function and fine motor coordination.Daily practice will benefit the students.

My students are a diverse group of learners from a variety of socioeconomic and ethnic/linguistic backgrounds.

The majority of them struggle with handwriting at a time when their handwriting should be at its best. They have expressed a desire to improve in this area but do not have the resources in the classroom to practice daily. Our school is a wonderful community of students, families, teachers, and administration that is, unfortunately, underfunded like so many other schools. Our students deserve to have all of the resources that they need.

My Project

The handwriting practice books will allow them to practice cursive handwriting daily to increase precision and accuracy in their handwriting. Studies have shown that handwriting is linked to increased cognitive function, particularly in the language areas of the brain, and can help to stimulate creativity in writing. Additionally, daily handwriting practice will help with fine motor skill development and allow them to become more precise in other areas academically. The materials are reusable so there will be less waste and will be able to be used year after year.

Students will be proud of their handwriting and will able to project confidence in their writing overall.

Increased fine motor skill development will help them in all areas of their life. My students and I thank you for your generosity!
