My Students
Books are powerful mirrors and windows for all of us; children need more selections in both these "mirrors" and "windows." It is vital for my students to see themselves in the books they will read this year and to fall in love with high-quality children's books that explore a myriad of cultures.
My students are very respectful, motivated, and caring students from a low-income school.
They are a group of 4th graders in a Dual Language Immersion program Spanish-English, with reading abilities varying from struggling readers to above grade level readers. Unfortunately, the titles I have available in my classroom library are few and they are not as multicultural as they could be. It is crucial to have materials available that will keep them motivated to read and develop their reading skills. Funding from the supplies that this project will offer them would offer them a great learning opportunity.
My Project
This books in this project will be used to enhance students' learning and reading experience, allowing them to read and explore exciting themes that were not readily available to them. I will use the books for daily read alouds and/or discussions and for independent reading. These fund are fun and interesting books that will engage my students in their reading, while helping them improve their fluency, comprehension, and reading skills in general.
This project will allow me to gain valuable resources that will improve students' creative skills (both through reading and writing) and inspire them to go on reading for pleasure and being lifelong learners.
