This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
By the end of the school year, I want to see every student of mine close to or on grade level when it comes to their reading. Currently my students are reading at kindergarten or first grade levels and I need my wish list resources to get them to where they need to be.
Every student of mine walks in to my room every morning with their breakfast and gives me a hug.
They are incredibly loving, sweet, and eager to receive their education. I love watching them become excited about the books we read together as a class. They are my superstars!
My Project
My students are very eager to read books and raise their reading level to the next difficulty marker. As a new teacher, I do not have the luxury of having an extensive classroom library. My students will be using these books and TIME Magazine subscriptions to improve their understanding of phonics, word construction and reading.
Using the headphones that I have on my wish list, my students will be able to listen to audio books and therefore have a more concrete understanding of letters and the sounds they make. Eventually, I envision my students using the books for sustained silent reading and literacy centers, while I focus on smaller groups for guided reading practice.
All of the resources that I have asked for on my wish list will significantly contribute to my students understanding of phonics, blending sounds, and word construction. These resources will keep my students engaged and allow me to have more hands-on lesson plans.
There is no question that your donation will be making a substantial difference in the lives of my children.
Literacy, and education in general, is a life or death matter for my students. Academic success is the only way to show them that they ARE capable of ANYTHING. They will succeed at anything they work hard to achieve! My students and I thank you for helping them reach further than the stars to become the best third graders they can be!
