This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day in my classroom is very organized with lots of class transitions and usually a few surprises. My purpose in being an art teacher is to inspire the students to discover the world around them and express themselves.
Our school serves 99% economically disadvantaged families, and is considered a high poverty school.
After coming from a pretty rough past, our school is transforming, and changing its brand to make it the best school we can provide for our children and families!
My Project
I am asking for a large rug and a drying rack.
Currently the children either sit on the concrete floor during guided reading or they sit at their desks where they can't see the illustrations. If I had a nice rug the students would have something comfortable to sit on and would be able to see illustrations in a story.
The drying rack is just as much a necessity. Right now when the students do a watercolor or tempera artwork their masterpieces are places in rows in the floor where they get stepped on sometimes and have even been torn.
This donation will improve my classroom by increasing comfort and learning during reading time and providing a safe place for the children's artwork.
These things will create a warmer and safer environment for everyone.
