Teacher Professional Development: I need the Second Step early learning program to be the best I can be in my role as a school counselor.<profdevpilot>
Each day I know the value of teaching social-emotional skills to students. It is one thing to teach these skills but another to learn how to effectively teach these skills. I hope to learn those effective skills through this project.
I have been a school counselor for 8 years.
In those years I have learned many things but know there is still much to learn. This year I have been invited to speak on Capital Hill about the work I do in schools around social-emotional learning. Just recently I learned that I will be starting to bring our social-emotional learning into our Pre-K program next year so it is very important for me to increase my skills on how to teach this population effectively.
My Project
I am asking for The Second Step early learning program. This program will be used to help me learn how to teach social-emotional skills to the Pre-K students in our district. It teaches skills that help children learn, manage their feelings, make friends, and solve problems. One of the key pieces of this program is the online training for myself in delivering these lessons. I will have the ability to watch others online teach the lessons and therefore learning from seeing it in action. I will also have access to other professionals through chat rooms and sharing resources that will help me grow as a professional.

Having the ability to teach the important skills our students need is so valuable. I know you also see the value in teaching kids emotion regulation but this project also shows the value of teaching those that teach those skills.
