What do you remember about your math class in school? Did you work page by page in a math book? Math is not taught like that any longer! Now students experience and participate in math.
I teach a great bunch of second grade gifted students.
We live in the beautiful foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in northeast Georgia. Our school is located in a small rural community. This year our schools have been restructured and my school houses the first and second graders.
My Project
Not only have our schools been restructured, but I am also teaching gifted using a daily model. In the past my students came to me once a week, but this year I get them every day for math. I have not taught math every day in a very long time! Nor have I ever taught second grade math on a daily basis! I need hands-on materials and visuals to help me teach my students. I am asking for math materials that I can use during calendar math, magnetic numbers, foam dice to help keep the noise down while playing math games, a number line for the classroom, Write and Wipe boards and markers, and other hands-on items. All of these items will help the students stay engaged and focused.
Donating to our project will help to provide my students with math manipulatives that will help them to understand math concepts.
Hands-on materials will help my students to participate in math.
