My students need a littleBit kit, four MakeyMakey kits, LEDs, electrical and magnetic parts to make their art come to life, and eliminate the line between art and science.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The art classroom at University Park Elementary is a creative space where students get to explore their interests through the process of making. Nothing is off limits and students are encouraged to blend ideas, mediums, subjects, and knowledge with the goal of developing a passion for learning.
The students at University Park are from all over the world and are just as diverse in their learning.
They are excited to learn and create. Their imaginations are wonderful and they see the world in possibilities and wonder. I can't wait to explore the world of creative learning with my students where the boundaries between science and art a blurred.
My Project
The first lesson will be with creating throwies. These are LED lights connected to a small battery, a magnet, and electrical tape. The result is light up art that can stick to an metal surface, while learning about the basic principles of electricity.
From there we create light up art using the conductive adhesive tape to create light up 2-D and 3-D art.
Then we use the Makey Makey to introduce creative computer programming with MIT's Scratch computer programming learning tool.
Finally we learn about littleBits by exploring its possibilities. Once we understand what we can do with the littleBits kit we will brain storm a classroom art project using the littleBits kit.
I believe a large part of becoming a life-long learner is looking at the world with a sense of wonder and curiosity.
By combing the best elements of science, technology, art, and creating the students will look at the world in terms of possibilities and questions.
