Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

You can't exactly touch thermal energy but you can use hot plates and thermometers! One of the concepts studied in science is thermal energy. We are in great need of these materials to ensure that every student is able to experience and manipulate the concept of heat to truly understand it.

My students are 8th graders at a neighborhood middle school.

The school serves grades 6-8 with approximately 950 students. Ninety percent of students qualify for free and reduced lunch. The students are fun-loving and learn best with hands-on activities. They are aware of global issues and eager to participate in service learning activities. These 8th graders are currently taking Science 8, which is the state requirement for 8th grade science.

My Project

Electric ranges and thermometers are requested for this project. With these materials, the students will be able to set up a plethora of lab experiments to demonstrate concepts such as heat transfer, temperature and measurement. Pictures in books are not enough for my students. They crave real life, hands-on experiences that they can manipulate and make meaningful. My students are eager to learn and in need of resources. They greatly want to experience labs and activities in science. In order to effectively do so, these materials are essential.

Science is in everything that we do.

It helps us to learn how to question, build, problem solve and be a part of a global community. My students are in need of physical science supplies to enable them to have the same opportunities to learn as other students taking this course in other buildings across the district.
