Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I believe incorporating hands-on activities & manipulative materials into my teaching to enrich direct instruction leads to a positive influence on student participation, engagement, collaboration, & performance. My students will attain all the essential skills needed to succeed in 1st grade!
My Kindergarten students have been put into my class because they are academically challenged and require extended practices and intensive learning strategies.
They are labeled by statistics destined to fail, coming from unstable homes where family life & support is inefficient. School is their safe haven and an exciting place full of new exposures and love.
My Project
Students will be given opportunities to be independent in pair teaching or centers & experimental in their learning. They will have organized resources for counting, constructing patterns and shapes. These resources build on past and present learning skills, extending their knowledge in various ways. Visual aids aligned with beginning sounds offer multiple examples and visual aids for letters and their sounds. The manipulative materials combined with free play and direct modeling, are disguised and learning becomes fun!
For most of my students, my classroom is the only place where they experience positive attention, fun practices, and new exposures to various life lessons.
Play is the highest form of research and gives children a chance to practice what they are learning. When children are having fun, they are more receptive to open their minds, curiosity, and creativity! Children need to be in control of their learning, as I am just their to guide them!
