Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am new to teaching 3rd grade and have the teaching manual for our math curriculum, but no materials. Most of our lessons are taught through a hands-on approve that require many different tools. My classroom budget was cut this year and my students NEED these supplies to be successful learners.

I work in a Title 1 school near Denver, Colorado with a high population of English Language Learners.

94% of the students at my school receive free or reduced lunch. The 3rd graders I teach are passionate and smart individuals who deserve every opportunity that other schools are afforded.

My Project

The first 3 units of our math curriculum has a heavy focus on concepts related to place value and requires the use of the place value blocks. This tool is essential for helping students have a better understanding of numbers. As we begin to explore more complex problems students need clocks to understand and solve problems involving elapsed time. We will use money to play games that require students to exchange various amounts. We will also use the money to determine greater than and less than dollar amounts.

I know my students learn best through immersing themselves in the problem.

It is imperative they receive these items to better prepare themselves for learning. They can not be successful with out the right tools. Thank you for helping my students!
