Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We love math! My students cannot get enough math but they do not want to be stuck doing pencil and paper worksheets. Kindergarten is a time to learn through play, and that is the opportunity I want to give them!

We are an urban school.

My students' families are struggling to make ends meet. My students often come to school without proper food and sleep. Despite this, my students come to school every day with a desire to learn. I am teaching an advanced kindergarten class this year, which means our class will cover some first grade material as well. My students are flourishing readers, but they are starting to struggle with math skills.

My Project

These materials will really enhance our math curriculum and make it come to life for my students. I will be able to organize these items into center activities so my students can explore math concepts on their own as well as demonstrate their knowledge. Being able to use these items in a play setting will allow my students have fun while learning important math concepts. With these materials, I foresee our math test scores rising.

This will help save my kindergarteners from boring pencil and paper worksheets. This will also cement the math skills my students need to be successful in school for years to come. Thank you!
