My students need six copies of books that will help create a love of learning through literature. This includes Levels M and K, A Girl Named Helen Keller and Father Bear Comes Home.
A typical day in our classroom begins with morning meeting where we discuss our goals for the day and how we achieve them together as a "family." Students then begin workshop time in both reading and math. At the end of the day we enjoy spending our time in PE, project-learning time, and art/music.
My students are active learners who enjoy discussing what they know and inquire with great curiosity of things they do not know.
At our charter school we encourage this sprit, so that students are in charge of their own learning and as teachers we are "tour guides" on their journey of exploration.
My Project
My students need six each of books that will help create a love of learning through literature. This includes Levels M and K Explore Biomes and Count on Math. Guided reading time provides reading materials at a student's individual level. We also need six each of A Girl Named Helen Keller and Father Bear Comes Home. The guided reading materials will be used during literacy hour in the day. These books are also correlated to the topics we study during our larger projects. Students will be able to use these books as sources of information to write and present on the topic of study. These books are at their independent reading level and can be utilized to enhance their learning process.
This project will improve my classroom because there is so much value in having an individual, physical book in a child's hand that is their pathway to new understandings.
At times because of a lack of resources, students are bored or not engaged when you hand them a large anthology or a duplicated black and white copy of a book. Having enough books for a small group will engage the students and create a love of reading.
