Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every day in our classroom there is something different and unique happening. We learn concepts that we can apply all throughout our lives and develop passions and interests that will guide our academic futures.

My students are highly motivated and interested kids who have shown incredible investment in their own learning only two months into school.

They devour information, take on challenges, continue to try, and still yearn to learn more. They have shown great interest in our geography, culture, and geology units so far and I know that diving into our ecosystem, animal, and environmental unit is only going to continue to push the kids' social awareness and interest in making the world a better place.

My Project

Through hands on materials that help to bring the diverse ecosystems of the world into our classroom, I hope to engender great interest in the many habitats, relationships, and environments in which living things can grow. Our class will be spending an entire marking period discussing mammals, reptiles, amphibians, bugs, birds, dinosaurs, plants, etc. and seeing how all of these diverse biological creatures interact and coexist in the world. Furthermore, the students will understand the life cycle and food chain by growing our own butterflies, frogs, and plants and watching an ant farm and setting a birdhouse out on the playground. All of these opportunities allow for children to understand the importance of preserving, protecting, and loving nature and how the environment is connected to all of us.

There is no better way to help children understand the inter-connectivity of the world than through the demonstrations as to how animals and plant life are able to depend on one another for their own survival.

With environmental issues plaguing the world, children must understand (and hopefully be passionate about) the problems that we face and the solutions available to us. Change must come from the bottom up. By planting the right seeds in Pre K, students can grow to be great difference maker
