Every day in our class we use an Olympic weight bar. The students are excited to get going on all our daily workouts. We discuss the day's events. We give demos and pointers. The advanced students train the beginning students as I walk around the class and help as well.
We are one of the only Crossfit affiliated gyms in the State's High School system.
We do not make money and hold 3 classes daily. Our school has a lower socioeconomic base and upwards of 3/4 of our school is on a free and reduced lunch program. With this type of clientele we see a wide variety of students. This is a unique opportunity for peer education as well as peer mentoring and leadership. Our students in the classroom are kind and motivating for one another. They get done with one workout and encourage their neighbor to do the same. They are very outgoing students.
My Project
Our students need these products as we do not have them right now. A locking bar clamp helps the weight to stay on the bar as the lifter is moving the bar. We do a lot of overhead lifting. Overhead lifting is not always safe to do with a lot of weight on due to our lack of clamps. With clamps I feel that our students could set new and better goals as they would not have to worry about weights falling off. Still will learn safety and achieve higher goals as well as discovering what their true limits of fitness are.
Often time physical education is looked over when it comes to funding and new materials.
With this being said we have many old, broken, or run down products. Our students would benefit tremendously from these clamps as they could progress further. By students realizing their potential they can believe in themselves more. Fitness levels will be attained and health will be improved.......for a lifetime.
