Please provide graphing calculators for urban high school students! My school is in a low income area and a lot of my students can't afford to buy graphing calculators for themselves. However, graphing calculators are a required tool for much of the material we teach. My students use these calculators every day, but we don't have enough for every student. This project will also help prepare my students for college, as graphing calculators are often used in college. If my students can get comfortable with them now, they will have a much easier time in college. These calculators will also give my students valuable experience with technology. Students even write programs in the calculator (to compute answers from the quadratic formula, for example), which gives them an introduction to computer programming. Your purchase of these calculators will allow my students to learn material they could not learn otherwise. They will also gain a deeper understanding for material that could be done without a graphing calculator, but truly comes alive with one.
