This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

It can be extremely difficult for teenagers to relate to many of the concepts in their Government and Economics textbooks. We have a current event requirement that we use to make connections. But too often, the students do not have access to materials for current events.

The students are from a low-income area.

They are invested in their future by attending a charter school focused on preparing them for and sending them to college. They are motivated to learn and improve their lives. Most of them would be the first in their family to attend college, and take that goal seriously.

My Project

By connecting current events, the students can see the concepts we discuss in Government and Economics class working in the real world, and how it affects their lives, and the lives of people their own age. The authenticity of real world connections cannot be replaced by a teacher or textbook, no matter how good they are.

Your donation can help these disadvantaged students have easy access to learn about the current events going on in their larger world.

This knowledge will help them make connections to our content in Government and Economics, and hopefully inspire them to get involved in society to make that world an even better place.
