My Students

New AP Art students are often overwhelmed by the amount of work they need to do in their class next year; they are required to have 29 finished pieces for submission but must create many more to reach the Advanced Placement standard.

AP Art Studio students are rarely like other AP students.

They are often more creative and less traditionally academic than other AP classes. Students are from diverse backgrounds and often speak another language at home. What unites them is their love for visual art.

My Project

At our new AP art meeting for the last two years, we've delivered sketchbooks and portfolios to all incoming students. You should see their faces. It's like they received an official sanction to be an artist. Immediately, they start to wonder how they are going to fill these sketchbooks. It's an instant conversation starter with current students.

Materials are everything to an artists.

Without supplies, it is impossible to create. Many of my kids have very limited funds and art supplies are not high on the list of necessary items in financially struggling families. Help them out!
