Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Learn while you play. Is that even possible? To most students, they think learning means no playing or no fun. With owl pellets, students will play and learn at the same time. Guaranteed!

My students are enrolled in the Special Education program.

They have learning disabilities but with modification, they all can learn. Most, if not all, learn best with hand-on activities. They attend a low-performing school where the majority of students receive Title 1 assistance.

My Project

Once you tell the students what owl pellets are, you will get their attention! "Eewww!" "Gross!" You might even get "cool!" With the owl pellets, my students, through dissection, will be able to reconstruct a food chain and a food web. They will compare their finding with other students as well. If they are lucky, they will also be able reconstruct the bones to uncover what animal the owl had for dinner. Afterward, they will watch a DVD on owl pellets. This video will reinforce what they learned while dissecting actual owl pellets.
