We spend a lot of the day doing hands-on activities. First graders need to see the skills being taught in more than one way. We spend some time learning the skills, then they spend more time each day exploring and reinforcing those skills.
We are a school that has the needs of a Title 1 school, but we are not so we do not have access to the resources that most Title 1 schools do.
My first graders love moving around the room and playing games. During centers they will work with each other to practice skills previously taught. They enjoy the time they get to learn and grow with their peers.
My Project
We will use the materials daily. The variety of folder games will be introduced and modeled so students are capable of playing the games on their own. Students will play the folder games that will enhance the current lessons we are doing during science, social studies, math and language arts. The games are standards based so I feel comfortable allowing my students to play with and use them on a daily basis.
Donations to this project will improve my classroom by giving the students opportunities to play and learn.
They will have the choice of choosing what game they would like to play. Therefore, I know they will be engaged because it was their choice. They will continue to grow and learn with these games, not only with content knowledge but with their social skills as well.
