My students need a SAM Animation workstation for digital storytelling, WhisperPhones to improve fluency, and high-interest reading such as Star Wars and Fantasy books.
As the students enter the door of our third grade classroom, their positive energy and readiness to learn fills the room with excitement. I would like to build on this excitement by providing more literature and technology resources to build on their creativity.
The 23 third graders are creative and hands-on learners.
They also have a lot of energy so need many choices to keep their minds and bodies busy in positive ways. Our school is focused on technology integration and currently began a Bring Your Own Device program where students can bring tablets to school. I would like to make this program effective in our classroom and having specific technology tools will allow this to happen. Furthermore, new literature would allow students to strengthen their writing skills that could lead into a technology project.
My Project
Each item requested is a tool that would be used immediately and often in various school subject areas. The books were chosen for my avid as well as my reluctant readers. The Weather tracker connects to our science unit on Weather Changes. The Whisper Phones will help us with fluency practice by allowing each student to hear their own voice while reading. The two large cozy loungers will give my students a break from their chairs and a comfortable place to strengthen their reading. The Magna Tiles and ZOOB blocks were carefully chosen as tools to practice our cooperation and problem solving skills. Lastly, the technology tools will be essential to become a technology literate classroom. The SAM Animation system will be used for digital storytelling and the BrainPop license will enhance all academic areas with engaging activities and games. When students are motivated to learn, their effort increases and their excitement about the world is enhanced.
Being able to give my students new and exciting tools to strengthen their learning is such a tremendous gift.
As technology continues to advance, I have found motivating students to learn to become more and more challenging. Instead of fighting that challenge, my hope is to gift my learning environment with technology tools that will motivate students to be creative thinkers and problem solvers, as well as still enjoying what a real book can offer. Any donation will increase student engagement.
