This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The days of memorizing maps and pointing to the globe are coming to an end. GPS technology and the Google Earth program have brought maps and geography education into the 21st century.

My 7th grade students live in South Central Los Angeles here in beautiful southern California.

Even though we the beach is only 10 miles from the ocean, many of the students in my class have never seen the ocean. I'm really hoping that a hands-on Google Earth tablet will expose my students to the bigger world.

My Project

Today's students are receiving less and less geography education as current trends in education are focused on Math and English. Ignorance of local, American, and global geography is widespread in schools. The Google Earth program is an amazing teacher of local and global geography. The tablet pc that I'm requesting allows students to explore Google Earth through touch as opposed to simply viewing it while I operate with a laptop. I've borrowed other teachers laptops to have students control the software themselves and the participation rate and active engagement is awesome.

My students will benefit from a Google Earth tablet!

I believe it will broaden many students who currently live in very restrictive environments. Please help me widen eyes and open minds as we explore the world with Goggle Earth.
