Dr. Clancy Bambrick from Charlotte NC is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a Samsung Chromebook so that we can increase the amount of technology in our classroom to support Genius Hour - time to read and research about passions.

Do you spend time on the Internet, researching topics that interest you? If you're like me, the answer is a definite yes! My students crave this type of research but we need more technology in our classroom so that we can implement Genius Hour each week.
My students are 5th graders at an urban school in North Carolina.
Our school is high poverty and the digital divide is very apparent when you talk with our students. Almost none of my students have access to a computer and Internet at their house. This puts them at a disadvantage because technology proficiency is a requirement in college and in many careers. My students LOVE technology and they need more time in class to use it!
I'm requesting a Samsung Chromebook to increase the amount of technology we have in our classroom. Each week, my students read books during Guided Reading Groups and several want to learn more about the topic they have read about. We focus on nonfiction in our groups because my students struggle greatly with knowing how to read nonfiction. I love letting my students research the topics they are interested in because I know that researching is reading and that they need to read to get better at reading. With this Chromebook, we will have one more piece of technology which will make it easier for me to support my students' interest in researching. Currently, we are doing Genius Hour at a smaller scale because not all students can research at once. I would love to be able to implement Genius Hour with fidelity each week and be able to support my students with their projects. This Chromebook will help us get closer to that goal!
This project is important because in 2013, we must prepare all of our students for a technology-driven world.
That becomes complicated without the proper amount of technology in the classroom. Each piece of technology added to our classroom means more preparation for my students for our world today. Help my students explore their passions and more with a Chromebook!
