My students are fired up about different careers they could have after high school.
Our students are low-income but not low-functioning.
Our students are highly imaginative. Several of our students have been taking an online course about game design and have found that the software they have is not efficient for creating even simple game designs. So they went searching for the program they need and came up with this project.
Our students will use this program in order to be able to design games at a higher level than they can right now. These games and/or apps could actually be used by other students as well as published for others to use. This project will be able to take the current class to a whole new level: giving students an opportunity to expand their horizons in game design, problem-solving and trouble shooting as well as motivation to get a job done so that it can be used by others.
In Their Own Words
I am a student that is in a game design class along with several others. We use a trial version of our game creating software: Clickteam Fusion version 2.5. Our limitations with the trial version cripple our progress in designing our games. We only get a maximum of three frames, 100 backdrop events, 60 placed objects, etc. You might say, "Well, this seems like a lot of space," but it isn't. Further on in our units, we will need much more than we have access to now.
This project, with my teacher's help, will give those in video game design a better chance at finishing their projects and having them be the best that they can be given the programs we have available. I plan on helping others (and myself) take their projects to the next level. I also want to encourage the development of games and apps that we can actually use in the school.
This project is important to the completion of our game design program. Without the full version of the game design program, the limitations will eventually make it impossible to complete our game design courses.
