My Students

Writing motivators needed! Writing can be such a task for most us. Now imagine trying to get a class of second graders motivated to think of writing as fun!

I have an active and creative group of 2nd graders that need to have the opportunity to experience the creative hands on approach of writing.

Writing is a major component of our daily language arts program with a variety of genres (narratives, expository text, poems, articles, etc.). Students generally have a difficult time expressing their wealth of knowledge in their writing assignment because they find writing to be challenging and "boring". I want to be able to challenge but also show them that writing is FUN!. I need them to experience the writing process through a wide range of hands on creative materials. With these materials my students will be able to have the opportunity to choose how they want to display their final writing projects. Wether it be a bound book, a laminated poster, or a collage of ideas in a poem. My ultimate goal is to awaken their inner creativity and motivate them to celebrate their individualities through their final writing pieces.

My Project

My class will benefit greatly from having a hands on writing station. We would need a bookbinding machine to allow them to have the opportunity to publish stories, poems, or articles in a presentable book format. A classroom laminating machine would help students create tags, labels, photo essay presentations, etc. To add visual to their assignments we would need a classroom die cut machine with an assortment of die cuts. Finally, my class would greatly benefit from a writing station rolling cart. My classroom is in a bungalow therefore we have limited space. A self contained rolling cart will help keep all their writing necessities in one area for easy access. I feel that with these materials my writing lessons will be more meaningful and will allow my students to showcase their assignments through their final pieces. Great preparation and motivation for 3rd grade too!

My classroom writing project is important because my students need the writing skills necessary to succeed and excel in the world.

In order to "hook" them into writing, they need to be able to be comfortable expressing their thoughts and ideas on paper. My students also need to experience the creative side of presenting their final pieces and not be detained by the idea of paper and pencil format only.
