My Students

Every morning, twenty four- and five-year-old children walk into my room, full of energy. Finding ways to meet their needs while teaching them necessary skills for future success is essential.

My students are of multiple ethnicities, diverse backgrounds, and a wide range of socioeconomic statuses.

Many students come in needing to feel love, support, and safety. They are on a school campus that serves approximately 700 students from pre-k to fifth grade.

My Project

With so many budget cuts in our state, we are without funding that normally allows for small class orders. While the budget may not provide any additional funding, the needs of kids are still important. Having math manipulatives and activities students can use in centers will greatly improve their number recognition and addition skills. My students need magnetic letter builders, a ten-frames class set, construction paper, and a variety of classroom supplies. Pencil claws and magnetic manipulatives are essential in order to ensure that the children are learning proper letter formation skills. Write and wipe sleeves will allow us to copy a paper once and reuse it over without wasting extra copy paper. The papers can be reused in future years. Having a color-coded student key board will help children learn to type their name on our student computer. This is essential in the transition to kindergarten. The remaining supplies will provide opportunities for he creation of art projects, addressing fine motor skills, and creating journals or books of artwork.

The items listed above give every student an equal chance of success.

The learning will be transitioned to a more hands-on, fun style which will be very beneficial to all students. They will learn valuable math skills which will help them with number recognition and addition. They will also be able to work on proper pencil grip, name writing, and fine motor skills through various crafts. These skills are essential for the transition into kindergarten.
