Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager to learn new things, especially with hands on materials. They come from families with limited resources and are not always exposed to what others are. They are all hard working, lovable individuals with amazing goals and dreams that I want to help them achieve.
"Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn." - Benjamin Franklin.
My students are filled with creativity and imaginations that are out of this world. Most of my students are limited as to how far their imaginations can take them due to their poverty level. I want to help expand their minds and help create endless possibilities when it comes to achieving their dreams.
When I plan to create hands on lessons, most of the materials needed comes out of my pocket. I create these lessons to help my students learn on a hands on basis. I found that over the 3 years that I have been teaching first grade, my students are more engaged when it comes to project based, hands-on learning. They loved creating projects to hang in our classroom and on our hallway bulletin board. They are so hard working and proud of their work. Unfortunately, most students come to school with limited materials, so I need your help to create a hands-on and fun learning environment.
My Project
In order to express their creativity, I will need some art supplies such as construction paper, multicultural skin colored paper for about me projects, and paint. It is absolutely amazing to see what the students create when given the proper materials.
LAL/Math centers- Along with the art side of their creativity, my students also need hands-on LAL and Math center supplies. I was blessed to have some centers already donated to me, so I want to continue to introduce new and fun centers to my students as the year goes on. Simple centers, such as the CVC and Addition/Subtraction centers will help enhance my students' learning as the year goes on. These are fun, yet educational centers that my students will be able to learn from.
Class Read Aloud Books- My students loved to be read to. I have built my library with the help of other donations and continue to use those books throughout my lessons. I want to continue to expand their imaginations and expose them to more books!
With these donations, my students will be able to express themselves in full.
With all of the material requested, I can create fun and engaging hands on lessons that my students can use to really expand their creativity. I plan to use the materials given to do an All About Me lesson and other lessons based on what we are learning. The centers and books will be used to help engage my students. Most of them think centers are "playing games" when really, they are learning while having fun!
