From Hurricane Sandy to Hip Hip Hooray For Reading
My students need multiple copies of 25+ books to read on their instructional and independent level. Due to Hurricane Sandy, all of our books have been destroyed and we need to rebuild!
Hurricane Sandy has created many challenges in our school district! We temporarily moved to a new school with no books, no supplies but lots of spirit! My students need books to rekindle their love of reading. I know they will be so excited to receive books with which they can grow!
My students receive remedial reading support in a public school in New York every day.
They are in grades 2-5. These students are like sponges and they work very hard to succeed! Many of their homes have been compromised or destroyed due to Hurricane Sandy.
My Project
These new books will certainly address their individual needs as readers. They will be so excited to receive them; it is just the motivation they need to become lifelong readers! They will be gaining additional insight into history and many areas of nonfiction from these books.
This project is close to my heart as a reading teacher!
I believe that children need a wide variety of books to read and enjoy. This project will certainly provide a good start to the many books that were destroyed by the hurricane. I can't wait to witness my students cuddling up in a corner of my room with a great book!
