Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager to experience a hands-on frog dissection as part of our learning about the human body systems.
My students break the mold.
The students at this all-female, majority Hispanic school are excited about science and love to get their hands dirty with experiments. My school fosters creativity through a strong focus on science and engineering. Students are encouraged to work collaboratively, think outside and box, and take ownership of their ideas and creations.
My Project
My students will use the materials I am requesting to complete a frog dissection. We already have most of the supplies necessary to complete the dissection, we only need additional forceps and, of course, frogs. Students will learn how food moves through the digestive system, how air inflates the lungs, how blood vessels move blood around the body, and how the body systems of frogs are similar and different from humans.
This project will improve my students lives for the better by allowing them a relevant, hands-on learning experience to see how bodies are arranged and how systems work together.
This will very likely be the most memorable activity they take part in during their entire middle school career.
