This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help us to brighten up our classroom with a new classroom rug! I inherited an old, dirty, faded rug when I began teaching last year. It got us through the school year, but I always felt guilty having my students spend so much time on such a tired, ancient rug. I feel that my students deserve better!

I teach at a Title 1 School that is 71% Hispanic, 18% Asian, 9% African-America, and 2% other.

We are also 98% Free/Reduced Lunch. These students are energetic and eager to learn. Many of them enter my classroom unable to recite the alphabet, but leave avid readers. Much of their learning takes place on our classroom rug.

My Project

The carpet area in my classroom is an integral part of our daily activities. We use the carpet for whole group instruction, reading groups, and center time. My students spend much of their day interacting with each other in this area. I feel that my students deserve to sit in style on a brand new, colorful rug!

I want my students to be excited to enter my classroom each day, eager to learn and engage in conversations with their peers.

Since the rug is the center of much or our day, its appearance goes a long way to making this happen.
