My students need these special stools to keep focused in class and have a successful learning experience. These stools allow squirmy students to stay focused.
Not all children can sit in a chair and learn like others. Many need the option to move, but still not disturb the child that is successful by sitting still and focusing. I want my classroom to be a successful environment for every child to grow and learn and not feel different.
My students are typical 8 and 9 year olds, who squirm and need to be energized, but still achieve to the high academic standards of rigorous curriculum.
Each year my students seem to be less focused, whether it's due to all the technology they interact with on a daily basis or just not able to sit still and complete an activity. They have great intentions and want to please, but sometimes just cannot stay focused to complete activities that require them to sit still in a desk. When allowable students are able to sit on floor or anywhere in the room to work, but during assessments or district tests we are not allowed to use this option. Therefore, these are the times the Hokki chair will assist kids in learning and achieving success. Also while completing assignments in Google Classroom it is imperative they are focused. Even though they love technology and are great producers on Google they still become distracted.
My Project
The Hokki chair will allow students to stay at their desk and squirm, but not bother others. It keeps their upper body still but gets the wiggles out without being hazardous, like an exercise ball that at times they roll off. These stools are balanced and stable in one spot, while allowing you to move in a quiet, safe manner. This chair will allow those students with the inability to control their body an option in class that allows them to move quietly. It will also be a great way they can learn at my teacher table and be able to sit like the other students but not be distracting to themselves or others. Many students cannot control or even realize they are moving around, and therefore this will provide an alternative seating option for those students. By being able to focus, students will gain more knowledge and skills to enhance their learning and they will feel successful like their peers.
This chair will move my classroom into a 21st century learning experience and offer options for my squirmy students.
It will greatly improve my overall classroom performance and allow success to be felt for more students. It will help me create an environment for all learners and have a focused atmosphere that allows for movement without being distracting to others.
