LISA Academy encourages all teachers to implement PBL. Students learn both thinking strategies and domain knowledge when they complete a PBL project. I really want to be able to provide an authentic audience for their projects. Youtube will provide the audience. These cameras will help.
We have a VERY diverse school We are an open enrollment college prep charter school in Arkansas.
We are high poverty. We are a choice school. Our parents make the choice every morning to bring their children to our school. We honor their choice with high teacher/parent engagement and engaging activities and competitions for the students.
Our students will use the cameras to videotape their projects for our LISA Academy Poetry Channel. Out students voices need to be heard. The videos will also allow our students to showcase their projects in a manner that paper and cardboard do not allow. Video raises the level of the project to a 21st Century project. Our 6th-12th grade students study poetry for a full 6 weeks. During this time they learn to analyze poetry and discuss how they connect to the poems. In groups, they choose a poem to analyze and present. The winners in each grade level will presented at our Inaugural Poetry Night in April. Their voices will live on in our Poetry Channel. Poetry has become neat at our school. The cameras will help us step around the problem that students can not use their phones in the classroom.
The addition of video cameras to this project will allow the students to film their Poetry PBL during the school day in the school building.
This eliminates the issue of who has a fancier cell phone. As a high poverty school, we need to be cognizant of this issue. Student voices will be amplified in an equitable way. Students will be able to view their peers projects and share with their parents the work that they are accomplishing at school.
