Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Out with the old, in with the new! We are getting rid of boring worksheets and working on creative projects and presentations. My students need more than just plain white copy paper to truly unlock their creative potential.
We are a group of Chemistry scholars, searching for real life applications in our surrounding environment in an inner city public high school.
As a recently reconstituted school, we are trying to work hard towards improvement despite a lack of funds. My students are naturally curious and need a creative outlet. They need to strengthen their presentation skills and need more opportunities to engage with content on an application level.
My Project
All of these resources will go to stocking a supply station in our classroom. Instead of picking up worksheets or handouts, students will retrieve their group posters/projects. They will have glue sticks and a various array of colored paper to get their posters ready for presentation. Students will get to engage with the material with their groups and interpret the content in their own creative way.
On review days, students will pick up their own whiteboard. We can use them to play jeopardy or simply for quick checks for understanding. Students hold up their board to get rapid feedback whether or not their answer is correct.
These supplies may seem simple but they will go a long way in our classroom.
They will help make lessons engaging and tap into students' creative potential. The project supplies will help us attack real life applications of Chemistry and the whiteboards will help with effective and efficient review of the content!
