Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember walking into the classroom on your very first day of Kindergarten?! I absolutely do. I loved all the colors I saw around the room, the new supplies, the name plates on the tables and cubbies. I want to be able to give my first class of Kindergarteners that same magical feeling.

My students attend an independent, tuition-free, public K-8 state charter school in the heart of an urban area.

The huge majority of the school's population is composed of Latino and African-American children. Students are bused in from all over the city for a better education in classrooms that cap at 20.

My Project

My students need the pencils, calendars, desk plates, name tags, construction paper, crayons, erasers, tape, sorting bowls and more as supplies for the upcoming year. I'm a first year teacher and would like to give my first class of Kindergarteners a memorable year! For most students, the first day of Kindergarten will be their first time in a classroom. The supplies I am requesting are all basic supplies a Kindergarten classroom should have to make it a warm and inviting place. What classroom doesn't need pencils, erasers and paper? Those are all essential. I've requested markers and crayons to allow the children to be creative and develop their artistic abilities. I know for a fact that children LOVE seeing their names and having official spaces that belong to them. Name plates and tame tags will allow each child to feel that a part of the classroom belongs to them. The sound activity and calendar kits will reinforce numbers and letters, which is a huge part of Kindergarten!

As a first year teacher, being able to provide my first class with materials for a fun-filled academic year is very important.

I want my students to feel comfortable and content in their classroom. Besides being a place to learn, school should be fun and allow room for creativity and exploration. Obtaining the requested supplies would make this all possible.
