First Graders Need a Carpet to Build Classroom Community!

My students need a carpet so that daily calendar and other carpet activities like literacy instruction can be welcoming and organized.

My Students

Help us build a caring classroom community! My first graders are eager and energetic students, and having a colorful, organized carpet area will help us build community and make carpet learning time more effective.

We are in a public school in California and we represent a diverse student population.

Many of our students are socio-economically disadvantaged, and approximately 70% of the students at our school qualify for free or reduced lunch. My twenty-four first grade students come from a variety of language and cultural backgrounds.

My Project

The lessons and activities that take place on the carpet are an essential component to my first graders' learning experience. Carpet activities help build a strong and caring classroom community and help refocus students' attention. A carpet with clearly delineated seating areas will help my first grade students know where to sit so that they can focus best on the lessons and activities. Having this carpet in our classroom will save invaluable time, as energy can be focused into the lesson rather than into directing and redirecting students on where they should sit.

This carpet will have a lasting impact throughout the school year and in years to come!

Immeasurable time and energy will be saved, as we will not have to waste time reminding students where to sit. We can instead focus our attention on the learning at hand and continue to build a caring classroom community.
