First Graders in the Quest for Britannica Reference Books
My students need the Classroom Edition of Encyclopedia Britannica, the Merriam Webster Visual Dictionary, the Action Sports Series and other references to explore different topics.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Today more than ever, access to information is one click away. However, we have to select sources that are reliable and relevant. That's quite a challenge for a First Grader. I want my students to inspire their parents to accompany them in that journey as they start using the Public Library.
I teach 24 eager first graders, in a Title I school.
Most of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. Most of them are learning English as a second language and live in a high poverty area. One parent families, children being raised by grandparents, and parents working late hours are some of the difficulties facing our students. However challenged, my students are extremely motivated to learn and have curiosity to explore science and other topics as they develop their reading skills.
My Project
With the use of the digital edition of the Encyclopedia and other reference materials, my students will be able to find words, look for their favorite animals and learn to do basic searches. Later they will apply those skills as they use the digital editions available to them at the Public Library. There are many services and resources suitable for small kids, even for preschoolers. I want my students to become aware and if possible start using those library collections.
Please help my first graders develop their love for reading.
My first graders will really benefit from having these wonderful reference resources as they have illustrations, images and descriptions at their reading level and can be the first place to start exploring a topic. Curiosity in the topic will take them one step further as they use resources at the Public Library. Please help my current and future students in their quest for Britannica Reference Books.
