My students need art canvases for our upcoming art show fundraiser. Students will create their own artwork using many recycled materials and raise funds for our class.
Our classroom of special learners work hard daily to achieve their goals. I want my students to learn to to be as independent as possible as they navigate their way through life. For students with Autism and related struggles independent living skills can be a daily challenge.
My students are very special and talented.
They see the world in different ways and function on various levels based on their struggles. However, we focus on ability, not disability. We find each student's specific skill set and foster that. We have a wonderful school setting and typical students and teachers are very supportive and inclusive. We established our own school based business last year to promote financial literacy and foster daily living skills. Students craft their own items and we have sales in the school and community. Students track inventory and sales. We then decide as a group what will be purchase with the funds. We have a strong believe in using recycled materials when possible.
My Project
We are going to have an art show/sale later this school year. We need the art canvases to get started. We plan to use a variety of materials for the art pieces including recycled materials we are collecting such as bottle caps, puzzle pieces and buttons. We will then sell the pieces as a fundraiser for our classroom needs such as technology, supplies and field trip funding. The school based business allows students to learn financial literacy skills as they track inventory, sales, and decide how to spend their earnings that they worked so hard to earn. The business is student led and each student has a job based on their skill set. It also gives them an opportunity to interact with peers and become involved in their community as they host sales.
Any donation to this project will directly support a student with special needs.
The project will boost self esteem, teach financial literacy, and provide hands on training for students to take with them into the real world of work.
