Field Hockey is a popular and successful sport at our school. A portable scoreboard would allow both the players and spectators to be aware of the time and the score at a glance.
Our field hockey program is one of the few public middle school teams in our area.
We generally compete against private schools, and occasionally against high schools. As we try to expose as many kids as possible to the sport, there are no "cuts". If a student wants to play, we will find a position for them. Our program is a feeder for our regional high school which has had several successful seasons.
My Project
In the past, scorekeeping has been done by the coach with a hand held stopwatch and paper. No one has access to the time remaining or the score without asking. With a portable scoreboard players would have instant access to that information. With this project, players on both teams will be aware of the time remaining in a half, and the score. Parents and spectators would also be able to see this information.
As students develop into athletes they learn how to challenge themselves and persevere.
During a competition, being aware of how much time remains on the clock is an integral part of that experience. With a portable scoreboard players would have instant access to that information. Parents and spectators would be more invested in the game, and our program would better prepare students for their high school experience.
