Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you know what it is like to sit for an exam that will determine if you are going to graduate from high school? Imagine what it must be like taking these high stakes tests without having had breakfast hat morning or access to a snack during.
Our student body is very diverse.
We have military kids, International Baccalaureate students, AVID students, students of all levels of learning, students from many walks of life, however the majority of the students have one thing that pulls them all together; they come from economically disadvantaged homes. Our school works hard to promote learning across the board. Our students have risen to meet these demands.
My Project
Our students have risen to meet the demands of learning only to find themselves faced with the daunting task of passing 5 high stakes tests. They pass the tests, all of them, or the do not graduate. It does not matter how well they did in class, how much they learned, if on the day the sit for a test they are hungry and unable to concentrate because of hunger.
Students work hard to get to this point, FEED USA has stepped in to help them over another hurdle to success, hunger. Providing them with snack and/or a small meal during the testing day will help them concentrate on the task at hand, passing these important tests.

Being hungry strips a student of their concentration. High stakes testing is something a student has to conquer in order to graduate from high school. By filling the student's need of sustenance on this extremely important day, you and FEED USA will help a student fulfill the graduation requirements of passing these tests. Hunger should not be a hurdle for any student.
