Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We've heard it said that a picture speaks a thousand words. I've found this to be true when it comes to students in the science classroom. It is extremely helpful when students have a visual reminder of what we have talked about and the hands on activities we have done.
My students are amazing.
They are full of energy and excitement. They love to learn. Many of them light up when we begin science.
My students go to school in a large urban district. They face many challenges each day including lack of resources, books, and supplies. The majority of my students are ethnic minorities from homes where English is not the first language. Additionally, nearly 90% of all students at my school qualify for free or reduced lunch.
My Project
I am asking for support to get science posters. Part of the science curriculum I teach includes human biology, physics, life sciences and astronomy. Many times the only pictorial resource I have is the science text book. It would be very helpful for my students to be able to see the entire skeletal system or to be able to look over at the planets all lined up when we are studying the solar system.
I have many visual learners.
The majority of my students are from homes that do not speak English and heavily depend on visual representations to support their understanding of a concept. Quality science instruction has been lacking in my district and it is my aim to change that statistic. Thank you for considering giving to my classroom and supporting learning!
