Expanding Our World Through Books: Non-fiction Library

My students need high interest non-fiction books that teach them about the world around them.

My Students

Many of my students have little exposure to the world beyond our small valley. Having a library that teaches them about science, history, occupations and holidays will bring them exposure to our wonderful world and society.

Our school is located in rural Nevada.

With today's tough economy, most of our families are unable to provide a wide variety of books and learning materials. My class consists of 19 students who are eager to explore the world around them, even if their exposure is only through the books we read in class.

My Project

The majority of my students this year are boys, and their interests lie in the area of non-fiction subjects. They want reading material that teaches them cool facts and events in the world around them. They are especially interested in the sciences. My goal is to give them a broad exposure using this non-fiction library, teaching them that the world is at their fingertips through the written word--making them want to read.

This project will encourage my students to read, by offering them high interest topics in books at their grade and reading levels.

There is a world of information available to students today within books, and I hope to engage their curiosity.
