Excellence through Splendid Scanner and Eccentric Chants

My Students

"I can't see!" Is the most common phrase when a student is trying to share their work. We need easy access to celebrate the successes of all students in the room.

I teach in a bilingual classroom in an urban school district.

My students are an energetic group of Spanish-dominant students that spend half of the day learning in Spanish and half of the day learning in English. We are in a school that has three different learning strands: Dual Language Immersion, English only and Bilingual Education. We serve a very diverse population with over 75 percent of students living in poverty; all of the students in my class make up part of that percentage. We are also unique in which minority cultures make up the majority of our school population.

My Project

We are requesting sentence strips, chart stands and a scanner. The sentence strips will allow students to work with their team to write one sentence in a cooperative class paragraph. These sentences will then be displayed in a pocket chart using the chart stands. The chart stands will allow for flexibility in classroom placement and use. Each chart stand will show writing come to life as well as hold poems and chants that we use to build English fluency. Lastly, we need a scanner so that students are able to display their work. We have a Smart Board in our classroom, however, there is only 1 functioning scanner in our entire school, so it is very impractical to share student work upon completion. The scanner will allow for immediate recognition of student work. Students can scan their work and project it on the Smart Board for all their peers to see!

These donations will make a difference because they will allow students to build language fluency and feel proud of their work.
