"I hope...you make mistakes...if you are making mistakes, you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're Doing Something" Neil Gaiman
My classroom is collaborative, exploratory and inspirational.
My students are active, curious and creative. They represent a diverse blend of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and nearly half of them fall at or below the poverty line. Despite their differences or disadvantages, they believe in respect, effort, leadership and service.
These four tenets set the foundation of all learning at our school. Instruction is delivered through a model of arts integration. Art has guided my students through all areas of the curriculum and has assisted them in becoming educated, self aware and compassionate life-long learners.
Our school fosters a strong sense of community where everyone is welcome and included. Families are encouraged to become involved in their children's education and work collaboratively with teachers. The arts are part of the educational process and also serve to open doors and build bridges. The arts are the glue that binds our community together.
My Project
"Without leaps of imagination or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities...dreaming, after all is a form of planning" ~Gloria Steinem. My students need to see and hear examples of imagination, dreaming and life in order to be well educated and truly inspired. A projector and speakers will give them access to information that would be impossible to communicate otherwise. I can show them images, works of art, diagrams; we can watch documentaries, movies, video clips; they can listen to music, hear speeches, see critical moments in history... the possibilities are endless and the rewards immeasurable. These resources will allow my students to explore and learn through a multimedia approach. Many students do not have access to the Internet at home, or families to help them learn how to navigate the internet safely and intelligently. It is my goal to provide this opportunity to all students. These resources will enable that learning.
This project will provide my students with important technology skills while granting access to multicultural and multisensory educational experiences.
These experiences will inspire a quest for knowledge and self-expression that will engage students in my classroom and, more importantly, encourage lifelong learning. It is impossible to state a particular way that students will benefit, as the possibilities really are endless.
